Our church has mowing teams that take turns each week mowing. On our team’s turn once we had surveyed the grass and thought that it didn’t need cutting. It looked fresh cut to us. When we asked our Pastor he said that it needed to be cut because it would be out of hand in another week. So we showed up the next day to cut grass. Once I started I realized quickly that it really needed to be cut. For whatever reason it didn’t look bad to us, we honestly didn’t realize how high it was. Our Pastor had a different perspective and it was a good thing that he did.
There are times that a Pastor may tell us that there are things that we may need to cut out of our lives. We may disagree, not personally seeing anything wrong with it. Not out of rebellion, but out of perspective. Once we do start cutting these things out we will quickly realize that they did need to go. We don’t realize how out of hand things could get if we don’t handle them quickly and remove them from our lives.
Be humble and receive direction from your spiritual leaders. They are trying to help you, not harm you.
1 Thessalonians 5:11-13 NHEB 11 Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do. 12 But we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, 13 and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
Proverbs 10:17 ISV Whoever heeds correction is on the pathway to life, but someone who ignores exhortation goes astray.
Hebrews 13:17 ISV Continue to follow and be submissive to your leaders, since they are watching over your souls as those who will have to give a word of explanation. By doing this, you will be letting them carry out their duties joyfully, and not with grief, for that would be harmful for you.
