A Dehydrated Soul

Our family made a trip to Disney World in June one year. You know June, one of the hottest months of the year. I told my family before we left that my goal was to keep them alive by keeping them hydrated. You see, I work in the elements year round. I know what it’s like to stay outside in the heat all day. I also know what dehydration can do. It can cause permanent damage and even death. Your body doesn’t work right when you’re dehydrated. You often stop sweating, you may start stumbling, slurred speech is another symptom. Most people don’t even realize that they are dehydrated until it’s too late.

Just like our physical body, we can dehydrate our spiritual body. If we aren’t filling ourselves with Jesus, if we aren’t reading His Word, we can become spiritually dehydrated. A person may not know until it’s too late, so we have to watch for the symptoms. You may stop “sweating” or releasing salt, we are the salt of the earth. You may start stumbling more easily. You may have slurred speech, that is not clearly sharing Jesus. If we wait too long we could even die spiritually. I do have to add, as being a husband and dad, it is our responsibility to make sure our family isn’t spiritually dehydrated. So let’s drink the water that Jesus gives and teach our families to do the same.

John 4:14 ISV But whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never become thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become a well of water for him, springing up to eternal life.”

John 7:37 ISV On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and shouted, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
