We all know there are things that we are just supposed to do right? We know that we have to clean our house, take out the trash, bathe, etc. You don’t have to be told to do these things or at least let’s hope not. No, we know that these things just need to be done. If you stop doing those things, it doesn’t take long before it shows. And often what is true naturally, is also true spiritually.
Did you know this also applies to our walk with God? Yes they are things that we are just supposed to do. Things that we don’t have to feel called to do. Like praying, reading our Bibles, attending church, fasting, etc. These are simply things that we should do on a regular basis. Yes there are times God may call you to an extended or special time of any of these. But we don’t need God to send a special invitation for these to be routine. The invitation has already been sent. Just a few of these are:
Pray
1 Timothy 2:1 KJV
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
Ephesians 6:18 KJV
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV
Pray without ceasing.
Luke 18:1 – Men ought always to pray and not faint
Read the Word
Joshua 1:8 KJV
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Matthew 4:4 KJV
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Colossians 3:16 KJV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Church attendance
Hebrews 10:25 KJV
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
1 Timothy 4:13 NLT
Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.
Psalm 122:1 KJV
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
Fasting
Jesus said in Matthew 6:16 – “When ye fast…” He didn’t say if you fast, but when.
You see spiritual maturity is not doing what is extraordinary, it is being faithful in what is expected. You know the everyday walk with God. Do not forget Enoch is known for one thing He walked with God (Genesis 5:24 KJV). So focus on your walk and make it consistent.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
“Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
John 14:15 KJV
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
