Separated 

Have you ever come across a tree that had something grown into it that shouldn’t have been there? I’ve seen fencing, decorations and even electrical wiring grown into trees. The problem is the two things were too close in proximity, and while the tree grew, the foreign object became part of it. 

I have also seen though, trees that refused to let something become part of them that shouldn’t be. My daddy had thrown a boot into the fork of a tree trying to get something out of the tree. This happened before I was born. I just grew up seeing it way up there. In the process of time the tree died. I remember walking up and seeing the small piece of boot laying to the side. The tree, even till death, refused to let what didn’t belong to become part of it. 

In life we are going to come in contact with things that don’t need to be a part of who we are. We can either be like the trees that allow things to become part of them that don’t need to be there. Or we can refuse to let it become part of who we are. 

1 Corinthians 7:31 NLT

31 Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.
