I have written a few books now. One of those books is a work of fiction. In writing this book I named the characters what I wanted to name them. I assigned each character the role in the story that I wanted them to be in. I wrote the story in the way that I wanted it to go. Now if someone else were given the opportunity to change the storyline then it would no doubt have gone in a different direction. But I was the author, so I wrote it in the way that I wanted it to go.
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2 KJV). He will write the story of our faith. That is if we don’t try to take the pen. If we decide that we know best and we don’t trust our Author. Then we may write something into our story that doesn’t belong. Take Abraham for example. Abraham upon Sarah’s urging takes Hagar and writes Ishmael into his story. How would things have turned out differently had they waited? How much war and turmoil could have been prevented? If only they would not have tried writing their own story.
Sometimes when we don’t see anything happening we feel like we need to do something. Sometimes that something that we need to do is wait. If you’re in a waiting season, be patient.
If you’ve ever had a loved one having surgery then you know what it’s like to sit in a waiting room. Just because you can’t see what’s happening doesn’t mean nothing is happening. The people performing the surgery are meticulously going through every step to get it right. You wouldn’t want them to rush through this process.
Use this when you’re waiting on God. God isn’t doing nothing. He’s meticulously preparing whatever He has in store for you. So don’t take the pen, but wait patiently and expectantly.
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Psalm 37:5 KJV Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
