Caution

There is a road that I take to work that had some road work being done. There is a big flashing sign that shows CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION, 2 MILES AHEAD, RIGHT LANE CLOSED. When I first set this I simply moved over to the left lane. On the other hand, I have seen people wait until the last minute to move over. Sometimes this meant that they had to squeeze into traffic. I have seen people swerve in front of others. I saw one driver with no other vehicles around swerve to miss the cones at the last minute. Are they not paying attention? Are they just ignoring the sign? Do they think they have plenty of time? I keep thinking to myself over and over, “why are you waiting until the last minute? You had plenty of warning.”

The Word of God warns us that Jesus is coming back for those that have made themselves ready (Revelation 19:7). We know that Jesus is going to judge the living and the dead (2 Timothy 4:1 NET). We know that judgment is coming, And if it starts with us, what will be the fate of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God (1 Peter 4:17 NET)?

Yes we know that Jesus is coming back, but we don’t know exactly when. Therefore you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him (Matthew 24:44 NET). We also don’t know when our last day will be. As it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27 KJV).

Why am I writing such strong words? Because it’s a warning sign telling you to change lanes. Don’t wait until the last minute. These are not words of judgment, but words of grace and the goodness of God. Because it is the goodness of God leads you to repentance  (Romans 2:4 NHEB)? Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out (Acts 3:19 KJV).

I can’t say it any better than Ananias. Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name (Acts 22:16 NHEB).

Matthew 24:42 NET “Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
