Married To The World?

Solomon is known for his great wisdom and riches. Solomon loved the Lord (1 Kings 3:3 KJV). Solomon sacrificed greatly to God. He prayed for wisdom. He built the temple of the Lord. There is no doubt that Solomon wanted to serve God. Yet he had a problem. The problem starts in 1 Kings 3:1 (Easy English) Solomon made a covenant with Pharaoh, who was the king of Egypt. Solomon married Pharaoh’s daughter. He brought her to the city of David….

Solomon made a covenant with Egypt. Now, many will say that this was a strategic political move. Some would even say that this was a smart move. The problem is that Egypt is a type of the world. Plus this was forbidden in the law. Do not take wives or husbands from among them; do not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons. For through them your sons will be turned from me to the worship of other gods (Deuteronomy 7:3-4 BBE)… He did not keep God’s commandments, but King Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love (1 Kings 11:1-2 KJV).

That is exactly what happened with Solomon. Through his wives his heart was turned away. For it came about that when Solomon was old, his heart was turned away to other gods by his wives; and his heart was no longer true to the Lord his God as the heart of his father David had been (1 Kings 11:3-4 BBE).

I’m sure Solomon thought that he had it all under control, until he didn’t. By this point he was so numb to the bad things that he was doing that they didn’t even seem bad anymore. This all happened from trying to have a relationship with the world and with God. We cannot deny that Solomon loved God and wanted to serve Him, but he also wanted the worldly things too.

Also if you read on you will find that two of Solomon’s enemies Hadad and Jeroboam found safety in Egypt. The very place that Solomon trusted was harboring his enemies.

We cannot be in a relationship, in covenant with the world and it not affect our relationship with Jesus. The Word says Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1 John 2:15 KJV). Also do not think that just because the world may treat you nice, that it won’t turn on you. The world harbors our enemy.

Yes you may love God and truly want to serve Him. If you are trying to hold hands with the world while reaching towards heaven, the world will become a weight that holds you down. You will eventually stop looking to where you’re reaching and start looking to what you’re holding onto.

We must sever our relationship with the world. That is the worldly lusts. Understand that I am not saying that we shouldn’t have relationships with people in the world. Yes we will have relationships with people that are in the world. We must have these, how else can we win them? But we can be in the world and not of the world. We can be influencers without being influenced. We can make a difference by being different.

Let’s make sure that our relationship with Jesus is pure and we aren’t trying to share the love that we should give Him with the world. Let’s be in covenant with Jesus.

2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
