How do you prepare for Easter weekend? People all over are preparing for this weekend. They are getting their Easter outfits. They are buying eggs and preparing them. While there is nothing wrong with any of this. It did cause me to think about something else.

How did Jesus prepare for Easter weekend? We could easily start on Monday, but let’s start around Thursday/Friday and go through the weekend. Jesus washes His disciples feet, shares the Last Supper with them. He goes to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground (Luke 22:44 KJV).”

He is betrayed by Judas and then is hauled off to mock trials while most His disciples abandon Him. The trials ultimately lead to Him being beaten beyond the recognition of a human being. He was spit upon, mocked, beaten and abused. He then has to endure the Cross. All while being mocked by those that He came to save.

Then He dies, He is placed in an empty tomb. After all this comes the magnificent resurrection of Jesus. All of this is a short walk through how Jesus prepared for Easter. Why? To purchase our salvation, to pay the price for sin that we could not pay. To make the way that we may spend eternity with Him.

So do what you must to prepare for Easter, but don’t forget what was done for us. Remember the reason that we celebrate Easter. Remember the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made. Remember the resurrection. Remember that Jesus did all of this for you. You as an individual. He cared enough about you that He did all of this for you.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
