Interrupted

I do not like getting interrupted. I remember an instance when I was talking to someone that would not let me finish my sentence. I tried multiple times. Finally I stepped forward and sternly said, “You will let me finish my sentence!” They understood that I had had enough and they allowed me to talk. We don’t like people interrupting us and that is understandable. How many times have you heard, “We interrupt this scheduled programming” as an important news or weather update comes across the radio or TV? Although it may irritate you, it may be news that you need to hear.

Do we allow God to have this liberty in our lives? Or are we so set in our plans that God doesn’t have the freedom to interrupt us? God is in the business of interrupting our lives. Read through the Bible a little bit and you’ll discover that.

Noah, Abraham, David, Daniel, Peter, Ananias, Paul just to name a few all got interrupted. What if they didn’t allow God to interrupt them. What if Peter didn’t leave his boat, his occupation, everything he knew and follow Jesus? What if Ananias didn’t stop praying when God spoke and go pray for Paul?

If you allow God this freedom who knows what He can do with you. If you have never had God stop you in mid sentence, pray this prayer: set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3 KJV). He will interrupt your sentences. If you want to be where God wants you to be pray direct my steps by your word (Psalm 119:133 NET).

We should pray and ask God to interrupt us if He needs to. God may interrupt our plans, our sleep, our sentences, our preaching and even our prayers. If we want God to truly direct us then we must be prepared to be interrupted by Him. Let Him be free to interrupt us.

Proverbs 16:9 ISV A person plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.
