Try Something New

I have a way of making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that’s a little different than the normal way. I first microwave my peanut butter for 20 to 30 seconds. This makes the peanut butter softer and causes it to mix better with the jelly. Thus making a more consistent blend of the ingredients. Believe it or not this will make the sandwich taste different. It just tastes better this way. Well I had shared this phenomenon with some coworkers and they just couldn’t believe it. They said it’s all the same thing, how could putting it together differently change it? Well the proof is in the tasting right? (For those who don’t know, the original proverb was: the proof of the pudding is in the tasting or the eating.) So with that said I brought peanut butter and jelly to work with bread and mixed it there. Just as I finished mixing the first batch one of my co-workers who had disagreed with me walked in. I asked if he wanted to try it and he said yeah I’ll try it.  Now mind you I had a cupful, enough for probably three sandwiches. My friend took all of it and put it on two pieces of bread to make one sandwich. I just stood there and smiled, what else are you gonna do? He did like it and agreed that it did change the taste of the sandwich.

What if someone shares a way to experience something new and different in God? What if it’s different than you’re used to? Do you just ignore it because you’ve already had an experience with God that you think is sufficient? You may think to yourself that what you are doing has worked for you so far. So why try something different? Why not try something different? As it says in Psalm 34:8 (KJV) O taste and see that the LORD is good…

Instead be like my friend and when someone offers you a new experience with God. Don’t just take a little sample, no take it all. Empty the cup out and scrape the sides clean, don’t leave anything. If God has something for you, pursue it wholeheartedly. Get everything God has for you and get as much of God in your life as you can.

Psalm 63:8 KJV My soul followeth hard after thee….

Matthew 5:6 KJV Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
