Those that know me, know that I have dealt with back pain for years. I’m talking 20 plus years. I have suffered many things of many physicians. Yes, I have prayed, I have been prayed for, I have tried nearly anything that you can imagine. One early morning I was in a prayer meeting alone with God and God touched me and healed me. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that God healed me at this moment. I could move like I hadn’t been able to move in decades. I had no pain. Within 2 weeks the pain had returned. I again tried everything. I repented, I prayed, I fasted, I had people pray for me, I sought God for clarity and understanding. Understand that I did not just accept this. I fought for my miracle, but nevertheless the pain was back.
So now what was I to do with this? I kept praying over this. Months and months later I was driving to work in a great deal of pain. At this point I came to a resolve in my soul (Coming to a “resolve” means reaching a firm decision or determination about something, essentially making up your mind and settling on a course of action). This is exactly what I did, I made a firm decision, fully determined on this. What I resolved and arrived to is the Lord gives and the Lord takes away but blessed be the name of my Lord. I reached the point that I could say as Job said Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him (Job 13:15 KJV).
That’s what I want to address here. What do you do when God doesn’t come through like you think He should? You may think, “God always comes through and delivers, look at the 3 Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace story.” Yes, let’s look at that. They were told they were going to get thrown into a fiery furnace if they didn’t fall down and worship Nebuchadnezzars’s golden image. How did they answer him?
Daniel 3:17-18 ISV 17 Your majesty, if it be his will, our God whom we serve can deliver us from the blazing fire furnace, and he will deliver us from you. 18 But if not, rest assured, your majesty, that we won’t serve your gods, and we won’t worship the golden statue that you have set up.”
They knew that God was well able to deliver them from the furnace. They followed that with a statement that I’ll explain in my own language. God will deliver us even if by death from you and we will not serve your God’s even if it costs us our lives. You see they understood that God is sovereign and if He decided He could deliver them from the furnace, but He could also let them die. They trusted God no matter the outcome. There are many followers that have not been delivered from their persecutions or problems. Paul had what a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan. This he said he said he asked God 3 times to take away from him. This was God’s response: My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV)
So God didn’t come through like Paul wanted, but Paul had resolved to trust God. That’s the point. We have to resolve within ourselves to trust God, even if we don’t like the outcome. Trust God when you don’t get your healing, when the bill doesn’t get paid, when the trial goes longer than you wanted, when you lose your job. Trust God! You see it’s not trust when everything works out like we want. It’s trust when it doesn’t.
So don’t walk away, don’t stop trusting God when things don’t go the way you expect or want. No, dig in at this point and trust Him. Say as Job said Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him (Job 13:15 KJV).
Proverbs 3:5 KJV Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
