Quit Picking at It

I had a sore that just would not heal because I kept scratching at it. Every time it started to scab over, I’d pick at it again. Finally, I told myself, “You’ve got to leave this thing alone.” Once I quit messing with it, it healed just like it was supposed to.

Our emotional and spiritual wounds can be the same way. Sometimes the reason we don’t heal is because we keep reopening the wound. We keep revisiting the offense, replaying the conversation, reliving the hurt, or talking about it over and over. Every time we handle it, we pull the scab back off.

Some wounds don’t need more attention, they need more time. God designed our bodies to heal when we stop interfering with the process. In much the same way, God can heal the wounds of our hearts, but we have to stop constantly reopening them. There comes a point where we have to place them in His hands and let Him do what only He can do.

Psalm 147:3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
