A Well Used Tool

Most men have a favorite tool. It may be a hammer or crowbar that always gets used. These tools have scratches and dents. They look well worn because they are. They get used a lot and this shows. They also take care of these tools. These don’t get left out in the weather. No, they are stored safely in a tool box or shop.

You see, we like the sound of being used by God, but we don’t always anticipate that this comes with a cost. We get scrapes and bruises along the way and typically not those that you can see with the eye. These are typically below the surface and the deepest dents aren’t on the surface; they’re on the soul. Trials test us to our limits. We must not think just because we are wounded that God has abandoned us. Or that we made a mistake. No, this is what happens to tools that get used. But understand that God takes special care of you. He loves you and would not use you maliciously but He will use you with purpose. A tool that’s been used a lot often has a handle that is worn smooth to the shape of the owner’s hand. It shows intimacy, God knows exactly how to hold you.

So take heart if the battle has left a mark, that you can be right smack dab in the middle of the will of God and get wounded. After all Jesus was in the will of God and got crucified

1 Peter 4:12-13 KJV

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
