Use Your Talent

I recently went to a men’s conference. I saw mighty men of God preach the Word of God. I saw men affected by this. I saw men and women on the platform singing unto the Lord and leading in worship. I’m sure lives were changed and direction gained in this conference. In all of this I saw something else. I saw an older retired gentleman, Darryl,  minister to a young man, not just any young man, but my son Joshua. Joshua, who came back to God in this very conference. He spoke powerfully to Joshua encouraging him, giving him direction, and praying fervently for him. He made the comment, I’m not a preacher or nobody important, but I can pray. I watched as the actions of one man in this moment seemed to affect Joshua more than all of the powerful sermons that he had heard thus far. God used the efforts of one man to touch Joshua on a different level.

In the eyes of the world, or even in his own estimation, Darryl was a one-talent man, but in that moment, he invested it like a king. This was a man of God that reached for a young man that he didn’t know to help him. Not hiding his one talent, but using the talent that he did have with all of his might. In conversation with me he bragged about the conference and the speakers. He didn’t begrudge those with more talents, he applauded them. I venture to say that these men would have applauded him as well.

You see we all have our different things that we can do. We may not be a preacher, singer, teacher, etc, but that does not mean that your talent is not important. Do not be afraid to use your talent and hide it because it doesn’t seem to be that important to you. It’s important to someone and it’s important to God. We have something that we can do and it takes all of us doing the things that we can do to progress the kingdom of God. So ask yourself: what is the ‘one thing’ you can do today that might be the answer to someone else’s prayer?

Colossians 3:23-24 KJV 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
