Spiritually Pessimistic

If you’ve ever watched Winnie the Pooh you know the character Eeyore the beloved, gloomy old gray stuffed donkey. He was always down. Even if something good happened for him, he was looking at the cloud and not the silver lining. 

Most people wouldn’t identify themselves with Eeyore, but have you ever caught yourself reading through the Bible and only applying the negative things to your life? Are you spiritually pessimistic while reading the judgments, curses and rebukes and automatically take that to heart like that’s for you personally. Why, why do you skim over the love God has for you and go directly to the negative? It says in Romans 8:1 KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Do you even in that condemn yourself saying “well I don’t walk in the Spirit.” Stop it, stop condemning yourself. Stop beating yourself up. Look into the Word of God and see the love that He has for you. He robed Himself in flesh and came and died for you and me to purchase our salvation. He loves you that much. So encourage yourself with this and quit condemning yourself. 

Even when our own feelings try to argue with us, the Word gives us direction here as well. It says in 

1 John 3:19-20 WEB 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth and persuade our hearts before him, 20 because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

We must persuade our hearts to not condemn ourselves because God is greater than our hearts.

1 John 3:21 WEB Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
