The Right To Be Happy

In the Declaration of Independence it says this. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Everyone wants to be happy, right? How many times have we heard, I just want to be happy? How to be happy though, that is the question. 

Let’s look at what the Word says about being happy. 

Psalm 32:1-2 BBE 1 Happy is he who has forgiveness for his wrongdoing, and whose sin is covered. 2 Happy is the man in whom the Lord sees no evil, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Psalm 32:1-2 NHEB 1 Happy are those whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 2 Happy is the one to whom the LORD does not charge with sin, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Job 5:17 BBE Truly, that man is happy who has training from the hand of God: so do not let your heart be shut to the teaching of the Ruler of all.

Psalm 34:8 BBE By experience you will see that the Lord is good; happy is the man who has faith in him.

So true happiness is found in the Lord. There is another scripture I’d like to look at. It says in Matthew 5:4 (BBE) “Happy are those who are sad: for they will be comforted.” Wait a minute, happy are those who are sad? You may be thinking that doesn’t make sense. Think about it though. If you are sad and draw near to God for comfort. Then that is good because you’ve drawn closer to God and as we have already established true happiness is found in Him. 

Romans 15:13 (Easy English) God is the one who causes us to hope certainly for good things. I pray that God will fill you. I pray that he will cause you to be completely happy and without trouble deep inside yourselves. He will do this because you believe him. Then, as a result, God’s powerful Spirit will cause you to hope more and more certainly.
