Have you ever been going about your day and suddenly you’ve got this song caught in your head? You don’t know why it’s there, but it is. Then you remember that it was playing in the store that you walked into. Maybe you don’t remember where you heard it, but you probably heard it somewhere even though you weren’t paying attention. Now it’s stuck in your head.
How about this? Have you ever just felt down all of the sudden? You think it’s just your emotions. Or maybe you think you’re just having a bad day. Then your bad day turns into a bad week and your bad week turns into a bad month. You don’t know why you can’t shake it. Have you ever considered that the turmoil that’s inside of you isn’t coming from inside of you? Have you considered that the thoughts going through your head are not actually your thoughts? Consider this, that those thoughts in your head are actually what you are hearing. The enemy will whisper lies in your ear. And if you aren’t attentive you’ll have these thoughts rolling through your head and you’ll take ownership of them.
In 2 Kings 18 the enemy came against Judah. They gave all these threats. They belittled the people. They even questioned God and His ability to deliver.
Have you found yourself here? You feel threatened by what’s going on around you. You feel trapped. You feel less than. You even wonder if God can make a way.
I’m sure this is how these people felt. What did the prophet Isaiah tell them? Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard (2 Kings 19:6 KJV).
That’s what I’m telling you. First recognize that these are whispers of the enemy not your internal thoughts. Do not accept these lies. Secondly, don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard. All the enemy can do is lie, so if he’s telling you this, then the opposite is true. Instead believe what God says: Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you, yes, I help you, yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand (Isaiah 41:10 NET)!
1 Peter 5:8-9 ISV 8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him and be firm in the faith…
