Burn It Out

I had this tree that had mostly been taken down. There was a large stump about 8 feet tall that I needed gone. After a while I finally decided to tackle it. I gathered the limbs from around it, piling them up close. I was concerned that this was going to take a long time because of the size of the stump. Then I noticed a hollowed out hole in the center. So I began to get the center caught on fire. Once it started, it was a quick process. The fire consumed the rottenness from the inside and the stump was burned out in a matter of days.

Have you got rottenness in your life that stands there staring at you like this large stump? Is it something that you want out of your life, but just don’t know how to get rid of it? Let me explain to you how to get rid of it.

In the Biblical Tabernacle, the Brazen Altar (also known as the Altar of Burnt Offering) served as the physical and spiritual “first stop” for anyone seeking to approach God. The altar was first described in Exodus 27:1–8 and stood in the outer court of the Tabernacle. It was the first object a person encountered when entering the court. Before approaching God any further, there had to be a sacrifice. Animals were slain and their blood was shed on the altar (Leviticus 1).

The Brazen Altar ultimately foreshadows Calvary, but also represents repentance. Repentance is the spiritual parallel of that death. It is the death of the old will, it is the crucifixion of the flesh, it is turning away from sin. “When we lay ourselves on the altar of repentance, God’s holy fire consumes the old man.” So, if you are tired of this obstacle, run to Jesus and repent and let Him set you free.

Romans 6:6 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Matthew 3:11 KJV I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.
