Name calling on a playground was a common occurrence when I was in school. Among children we see this and think nothing of it. Unfortunately, there are times though that a name is called and someone begins to find their identity in it. Sometimes carrying this false identity for years of their lives.
The enemy wants to assign you a label, hurling it at you repeatedly until you mistake his accusations for your identity. He whispers that you are a failure, worthless, or a waste of time. He brands you as guilty, worthy of punishment, and unfit to serve. These are the lies the accuser of the brethren uses to deceive you into accepting a false identity.
These contradict who God says you are. God says you are my people, my beloved (Romans 9:25). A chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession” (1 Peter 2:9). Children of God” (John 1:12). Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). Friends” (John 15:15). God’s handiwork (Ephesians 2:10). Christ’s ambassadors, (2 Corinthians 5:20). The light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16).
It is infinitely more important what our Creator calls us than what the enemy calls us. We should never let the one that stands to accuse us determine our identity. Instead we should let the One that paid the price for our salvation determine this. So that we would find our identity in Christ.
Psalm 139:17-18 NLT
17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
