There were two brothers, Elian and Silas, that inherited neighboring plots of land. They were both skilled farmers, yet their approaches to life were vastly different.
Silas was a man of meticulous planning. He watched the sky with a constant, anxious gaze. When the spring breeze arrived, he noted, “It is too gusty; the seed will scatter,” and stayed home. When the clouds gathered, he reasoned, “If I plant now, a torrential rain will wash the seeds away.” He waited for the perfect sunny morning, with soft soil and a gentle, consistent breeze, to begin his work.
Elian, however, was a man of action. He understood that ideal weather was a rarity. He looked at the same gusty wind and decided to plant deep. He looked at the same threatening clouds and reasoned that the rain would water the seeds. “If I wait for a perfect day,” Elian said, “I will never plant, and if I fear every cloud, I will never reap”.
While Silas sat on his porch, refining his “perfect” plan, Elian was out in the field by early morning, working until evening. Elian didn’t know if every seed would survive, or if the early crop or late crop would be better, but he knew that no seed in the ground guaranteed no harvest.
People often get hung up on what if’s, that stop them from coming to God, from going to church. They wonder what people will think, how they should dress, how they should act, what they will have to give up, what they will have to do, what about this, what about that. Forget about that stuff and just come to Jesus. Are there things that you will discover that you have to do, yes, but don’t worry about that now.
The demon possessed man in Mark 5 came running to Jesus, he didn’t approach Jesus in what some may call an appropriate manner. He didn’t wait until all his questions were answered, he didn’t wait until he had it all together. No, he just ran to Jesus. The next thing we find is him sitting at the feet of Jesus clothed, and in his right mind. Which means he wasn’t even dressed appropriately when he came to Jesus. After an encounter with Jesus he was changed.
It says in Ecclesiastes 11:4 “He that observes the wind shall not sow.” Which means if you are waiting for favorable conditions you will not start. Don’t wait for everything to line up, come to Jesus now, come to church now. Plant your feet in Jesus and grow in Him. Don’t wait because now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2 KJV).
Galatians 6:8 KJV
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
