I don’t understand this God. If you haven’t run into this thought yet, hold on you will. You will run into a situation that you don’t understand. A situation that will make you start asking questions. Even David asked How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me (Psalm 13:1-2 KJV)? You will begin as David to think that you have been forgotten. You’ll wonder how long you must wait. Why hasn’t God come through yet. You may even begin to wonder if He even hears you.
Then you run into this verse trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 KJV). You’ve probably read or heard this verse 100 times. But I submit to you that it is in this valley of wondering that you can really begin to grasp this verse. This is when you can learn that if you lean on how or when you think things should work out that this is leaning on your own understanding. Your understanding is a weak crutch that will not support you and you will fall. The thing that you have to lean on is trusting God, this will not let you fall.
Remember this when the situation arises that makes you start questioning. Remember that God knows all, sees all. He declares the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). His ways are past finding out (Romans 11:33 KJV). And He says for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end(Jeremiah 29:11 KJV). So truly trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 KJV).
Romans 11:33 ISV O how deep are God’s riches, and wisdom, and knowledge! How unfathomable are his decisions and unexplainable are his ways!
Psalm 27:13-14 KJV 13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
