When we read the words “on this day” we expect it to follow with something important that happened on the day mentioned. When you read this phrase do you think that the people involved in whatever event that has happened expected something big to happen on that day? To them it may have been just another day. Maybe they decided that everyday was important. Maybe they decided that today was important. Did you know that the word “today” comes from an Old English compound, meaning “on this day”. Everyday can be an “on this day” opportunity.
The Word says this is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24 KJV). It doesn’t say sunny day, rainy day, or gloomy day. No, it just says day. The Lord has made this day, rain or shine, good or bad. He made it and has allowed us to be here in it. We can find something to rejoice and be glad about every day. Have you ever heard the phrase “Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present?” God gave you the gift of this day. The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays his handiwork. Day after day it speaks out; night after night it reveals his greatness (Psalm 19:1-2 NET). Are you looking for His greatness in every single day?
Don’t let the day affect you, instead you affect the day. Look for His greatness. Look for an opportunity to give Him glory. Look for an opportunity to lift Him up. Look for an opportunity to share His love.
Philippians 4:4 KJV Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Psalm 32:11 KJV Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
