I remember growing up there was a caution light in our little town. It had been there as long as I could remember. Eventually it was decided that we didn’t need the caution light and it was taken down. Years later someone asked when the caution light had been taken down. They, like I, had grown used to it always being there. So much so that they didn’t even realize that it was gone. It’s interesting to me that the thing that would warn us to take caution and slow down went unnoticed for years.
Life is busy. We have things to do, places to go, projects, jobs, vacations, school, church, etc. We’re always in a hurry. I get it, but we have to slow down. If we don’t slow down sometimes we will miss what is right in front of us. Our family and friends are right here right now. We have to take the time to sit down and spend time with them. You never know when it will be the last conversation you have with someone. Don’t be so busy with life that you don’t take time to enjoy it.
We can do the same thing with Jesus. We can be so busy doing that we aren’t spending time with Him. We find the prime example of this in Luke chapter 10. Jesus is in the house and it says that Martha was distracted with all the preparations she had to make, (Luke 10:40 NET). Then Jesus tells her “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed (Luke 10:41-42 NET).” It was more important to spend time with Jesus than to get everything done just right.
Remember that you can’t unwind a clock or turn back time. Once time is spent you can’t get it back. So spend your time wisely and notice what’s right in front of you.
Ephesians 5:15-16 ISV 15 So, then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise but wise, 16 making the best use of your time because the times are evil.
