A coworker had brought a loaf of banana nut bread with blueberries in it to work to share. When I went to lunch I cut a piece off to eat. I took a bite and immediately started looking for the trash can to spit it out. It tasted horrible to me. Shortly thereafter the coworker that had brought it walked in. We were engaging in small talk when he cut a piece of the bread to eat. He took one bite and his face changed to disgust. He said, “that is horrible,” and tossed the entire thing in the trash. I told him that I had tasted it and didn’t like it, but I thought that he had already tasted it and knew what it tasted like. I also thought that he or a family member may have made it and I didn’t want to offend him. It would have been better had I warned him.
Many of us have turned from sin and know it’s horrible “taste” or effects. We often don’t warn others about this because we are afraid we may offend them. We convince ourselves that this is what they want. They don’t want to be told that what they are doing is wrong. They like it, they are invested in it and don’t want to turn it loose. When, all the while they may not know how bad it is.
Paul said about himself even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor, and an arrogant man. But I was treated with mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief, and our Lord’s grace was abundant, bringing faith and love in Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 1:13-14 NET). Paul didn’t know that he was doing wrong.
We must proclaim the Gospel. Because how then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?…(Romans 10:14 KJV) And faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17 KJV) .
So share the gospel, because if we were to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ they might taste of His goodness and forsake what they now know. So don’t be afraid to share Jesus with someone, but speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
Romans 1:16 KJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.
James 5:20 ISV you may be sure that whoever brings a sinner back from his wrong path will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
